1. Check for any visible larvae or crawling bugs
The best way to determine if you have a bed bug infestation is to see them, although even an experienced eye can find it hard to spot an infestation before its out-of-control. Bed bugs are round, flat, brown crawlies with adults being roughly the size of an Appleseed before feeding.
2. Check your skin
Something worse than the mere sight of bed bugs is the affect it has on your health. Bed bugs have a long proboscis (mouth-part) that is inserted into the skin of mammals to feed on blood. This leaves small bites behind in clusters, which can further lead to many critical conditions such as anaphylaxis or hallucinations.
3. Check for odours
One way a bed bug alerts its presence is through an offensive odour that they produce from their sweat glands. This smell can be characterised by a musty and stale aroma that increases in pungency the longer an infestation is present.
